Mad Dogs and English [Wo]men

Megan, Ann and I arrived at the old house Saturday at noon. 

We were greeted by the first bloom of the season.

We got to work right away. It took a lot of effort but we weeded the garden leaving only some garlic, onions, flowers, and what I'm pretty sure is zucchini but might be cucumber. John showed up shortly thereafter and cut the small patch of grass out back with the push mower that decided to work now that there wasn't a front lawn to cut. We threw out all the things that needed throwing out, and cleaned the whole house.

Final Harvest

I got sun sick and had to take some Tylenol and nap with an ice cold beanbag to get rid of the headache that was bad enough to make me queezy... but I'm glad it's done.

Weather says possible snow tonight and the pepper plants were already showing signs of frost damage... So we got the last of the food out of the garden, (except the cold hardy cauliflower, kale and herb bed) and cut down the bean vines, and pulled the pepper plants. I can't say it's been a good year but it has been an informative one.

Sorry it's been so long folks. Life kinda crept up on me and kept me distracted from the better things in life like blogging. :)

As you can see above, the cauliflower on the far left are healthy but not producing yet. The kale in the middle are loving the cold weather, the pepper plants in the right corner are a bit heavy with peppers and kind of droopy from the recent frost, and the parsnips on the lower right are going strong. The tomatoes, peas, and beans have given up for the year, and the herb bed needs some serious tending. (anyone need some parsley?)

Next weekend(or the one after if it rains again) we'll be mixing in amendments and covering the beds for winter.

Warm & Wet

There was a thunderstorm last night. Filled the rain barrel with overflow so everything should start sprouting if this weekend is as warm as they say.

Kinda cloudy and drizly today.

Behind the Broccoli, the peas are doing well.

The trellis mesh will have to go on the bars this weekend so the peas have something to climb.

I am hoping this is kale. Won't know for sure til it's bigger.

The lighter spots are vermiculite in the seed holes to maintain a nice moisture level.
