Just Gone, Not Forgotten

Life has been keeping my mind busy with work/school/financial issues and I've been keeping busy(games, videos, reading sci-fi, stumbleupon) trying to avoid that stress load. Unfortunately gardening is new and requires leaving my comfy furniture... those alone put it in the stress category. As such I haven't planted anything new since the last update.

I'm going to work on training myself to see gardening as a distraction instead of a responsibility... but that might take a while.

P.S. I bought an aloe and had to up-pot it as it was already root-bound. This doesn't count as garden stuff because it's not food.

P.P.S. We went to home depot and got the poles for vertical supports but we haven't put them in yet.

P.P.P.S. We priced do-it-yourself and pre-made rain barrels. IT comes out about he same if you don't have access to free supplies for the do-it-yourself model. We're going to get between 1 and 3 rain barrels this summer.

One last thing... I have just updated the calender so it should be accurate now.

Procrastination and Progress

As  you can see from the Garden Planner page... I'm tending to drift. :)

The day's I've been planting the seeds were supposed to be exactly a week apart (every Tuesday) I just got this Tuesday's batch planted today (Friday). I think I'm going to start planting the Sunday before because I'm just to lazy after work.

Even though I've been a bit lax in my discipline, the sprouts seem to be doing mostly well.
The first Seedling pack is doing very well. (Broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower)I've even up-potted some broccoli that were getting too big for those little slots.

In this pack left & center column parsley, right column top to bottom: lavender, echinacea, lavender. I think the top left and bottom right seeds rotted instead of sprouting. :(And last but not least, This pack has a cabbage sprout and the four seeds from today.

Last weekend, John and I got the wood from the tree cutting out of the garden and all the small stuff cut to bundle length. We forgot to get twine so it's been sitting on the patio all week waiting to get bundled up.(Planning to get that done tomorrow)
From this...

To this! The beds have been roughly marked out by the carpet paths we lay down last weekend. Each bed will get turned over, sifted and mixed with manure etc this weekend.

Since the ground never really had a chance to freeze deep this winter, the soil's been loose and dig-able every time the temps go up to 10°C so the high of 15° on Sunday should be perfect.

Made Some Changes; Added Some Pages

I'm still tweaking the layout of this blog in order to get it to look just right. :) I probably will be for a while yet.

I've also added a couple more info pages to the tabs along the top of the page. Check them out and let me know what you think.

As Tigger says, TTFN.

Form or Function?

Good morning all!

Got busy messing with the blog design last night and ran out of time to post the pics I took. I have to go to bed at 10 because I'm getting up at 5 for work; I can't focus otherwise.

As you can see now, you can still look up past posts by date, but now you can also view posts by topic. I got it working fairly quickly(thank you Blogger) but it took forever to get it to look anything like the other menu (thanks a lot Blogger).

Anyway, I promised you pics!

DollarStore seeds leftover from 2009.Buckets of dirt with some gravel in the bottom.

The plan is to put one and two together, put them in the window and see if anything happens.  Wish me luck?

New look, same great taste

With the help of the lovely Megan and the lovely new computer Megan gave me for Christmas, I have prettied up the CSS of the blog a bit. There is much garden news to share but it's past my usual bedtime so it'll have to wait til tomorrow.

Sweet dreams.

New Page!

Put up an About/FAQ page. It will be added to over the next little while.

Would you please comment here with any questions you'd like to see answered?

Thanks. :)
